Notes - From the St. John Morning Freeman, February 3, 1866: "The Grand Falls (Victoria Co.) correspondent of Woodstock papers under date 25th Jan. says that at midnght 24th the cry of fre alarmed the town to dscover the dwelling of John Leslie in flamemes - more sad to relate his remains were found in the chmney place after the extinguishing of the fre in the morning. The deceased was among the frst settlers in the town, having removed there from Fredericton (York Co.) where he had at one tme followed the occupation of baker. A stll greater calamty by fire attended with the loss of two lives occurred in a lumber camp opposite Tobique (Victoria Co.) last night. The survivor Elisha Larlee was one of the party of three who was aroused by fire in actual contact. He with difficulty reached the door which the other two, Goerge Inman and Adams failed to do. With his face and hands most severely burned and in a measure destitute of clothing, Larlee mounted a horse and succeeded in reaching the settlement, badly frozen by exposure. Doubts are entertained of Larlee surviving his sufferings." From the Religious Intelligencer, March 16, 1866: "We learn we were mistaken in that Mr. Larlee who lost hs life by the burning of the camp at Tobique (Victoria Co.) It was Elisha Larlee instead of Elijah, as stated by us. The deceased was a brother of Elijah Larlee."
