Millinocket -- Evelyn Mae Fowler Larlee, 91, died on Jursday, June 17, 2004. She was born on January 1, 1913, in Norcross, the daughter of Albert and Kate (Jones) Fowler.

Mrs. Larlee took great pride in being a direct descendent of Thomas and Betsy Fowler, who brought their family to Millinocket in 1829, becoming the first white settlers in the area.

A former resident of several other Maine communities, she lived in Millinocket for ten years with her sister, Charlotte Thaxter, and was a resident of the Stearns Assisted Living facility for three years.

She was the wife of the late Preston John Lare, whom she married in 1934. Her husband died in Louisiana in 1987.

After attending several school, Mrs. Larlee completed her education at Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston.

After 19 years as commissary supervisor for Canteen Food Services in Bangor, she retired at the age of 72. This culminated a lifetime of expertise in the food preparation field, beginning at her mother's side, cooking at the Norcross House in the 1950's. She later revived the family business, catering and hosting group events. While she lived in Brownville Junction, she provided lunches for railroad workers, and was known as the "best cook in Piscataquis County."

-- Paragraph not included to protect the living. --

She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Karen Larlee and Eric Swazey.

A celebration of Evelyn's life will be announced at a later date.
